Privacy Badger is the complementary tracker blocker to uBlock Origin, from EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), the leading digital rights non-profit.

What Privacy Badger does differently:

  • Doesn’t use static filter lists (like uBlock Origin does)
  • Watches trackers in real-time as you browse
  • Learns which third-party domains track you across sites
  • Auto-blocks them after observing pattern

Why use both Privacy Badger + uBlock Origin:

  • uBlock Origin = pre-curated lists (proactive, broad)
  • Privacy Badger = behavioral learning (reactive, personalized)
  • Together they catch what one misses
  • Both are open-source, no telemetry

Use cases:

  • Default install in any browser you use
  • Especially useful on sites with fresh / novel tracking (not in standard filter lists yet)
  • Background protection without thinking about it

Setup:

  1. Install from Chrome Web Store / Firefox Add-ons
  2. No configuration needed — it learns from your browsing
  3. After 2-4 weeks, badger icon shows tracker count per site
  4. Manually allow trackers that break specific sites you trust

vs Ghostery: Privacy Badger is fully open-source + non-profit (EFF). Ghostery has telemetry concerns. Privacy Badger better.

vs DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials: similar functionality. DDG combines tracker blocking + search. Use either or both.

Recommendation: install Privacy Badger alongside uBlock Origin. Both run lightweight. EFF non-profit governance is a feature.
