Privacy Badger is the complementary tracker blocker to uBlock Origin, from EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), the leading digital rights non-profit.
What Privacy Badger does differently:
- Doesn’t use static filter lists (like uBlock Origin does)
- Watches trackers in real-time as you browse
- Learns which third-party domains track you across sites
- Auto-blocks them after observing pattern
Why use both Privacy Badger + uBlock Origin:
- uBlock Origin = pre-curated lists (proactive, broad)
- Privacy Badger = behavioral learning (reactive, personalized)
- Together they catch what one misses
- Both are open-source, no telemetry
Use cases:
- Default install in any browser you use
- Especially useful on sites with fresh / novel tracking (not in standard filter lists yet)
- Background protection without thinking about it
Setup:
- Install from Chrome Web Store / Firefox Add-ons
- No configuration needed — it learns from your browsing
- After 2-4 weeks, badger icon shows tracker count per site
- Manually allow trackers that break specific sites you trust
vs Ghostery: Privacy Badger is fully open-source + non-profit (EFF). Ghostery has telemetry concerns. Privacy Badger better.
vs DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials: similar functionality. DDG combines tracker blocking + search. Use either or both.
Recommendation: install Privacy Badger alongside uBlock Origin. Both run lightweight. EFF non-profit governance is a feature.
